Private house at lake Arenal

Casa colitas,  private accommodation at Lake Arenal

This pristine natural environment lies between two oceans and is nothing less than impressive.  It´s stable economy, and politics without military force convinced us many years ago to settle in the hilly area around Lake Arenal.  Even today, the mild climate and indescribable friendliness of the people charm all visitors to the area.

Our team, would love to host you at Surf & Reit Chalets!

We have enough space in our amiable, house for 2 to 4 (5) persons. The cosy house has a fully equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor showers and a full bathroom.  There are two seperated bedrooms in the house. The living area has large windows with unbelievable views of the area. A garage is behind the house and you have your private access to the property.

The view from the window and terrace is of the wonderful landscape around Lake Arenal.  On our property we have horses, which guests and friends can use for  trips to the nearby lake or jungle.  The surrounding area can also be explored on foot.  The village of Rio Piedras is a short walk away and there basic requirements can be bought in the Pulperias (small supermarket).   There are also three small Sodas, where breakfast or lunch can be enjoyed.  Guests also have the option of preparing meals themselves in the chalets - a small, fully equipped house is there to cater to all needs!

Lying in a hammock, with a view of the lake and a book in hand can only mean ‚holiday‘ in it’s truest form. Toucans, hummingbirds and an abundance of parrots will give you the feeling that you‘ve discovered paradise.  With ideal temperatures, an extensive siesta will become part of your daily routine.  Binoculars should always be within reach though, as birds, butterflies and other brightly coloured jungle inhabitants can be watched whilst feeding.  You can hear the cries of the howler monkeys repeatedly throughout the day.  These creatures live in the trees and don’t grow to more than half a metre in size.  In this environment you’ll easily forget any stress and  daily concerns.

Many of the sights to see in Costa Rica lie in the area near our chalets.

A trip to the active Arenal Volcano is an absolute highlight when visiting Costa Rica.  Nobody leaves costa Rica without seeing it, and an eruption is an experience that cannot be compared to.  Arenal is not only the youngest and most active volcano in Costa Rica, but also one of the most active volcanoes in the world.  Lava flows regularly from the slopes to the valley and glowing pieces of rock with diameters of up to 7.5m can be shot 300m into the air.  At the foot of the volcano is the city of La Fortuna on one side, with the largest inland lake, Lake Arenal, on the other side.  Up until the first ascent in 1937 nobody believed that the approx. 1 670m high mountain was of volcanic origin, as it was completely overgrown.  The volcano was inactive for over 400 years, and now grows yearly by several meters as the lava piles up around the crater.  It’s approximately an hours drive from our chalets to the Arenal Volcano.

A visit to the Rio Celeste is also highly recommended.  This sky blue river flowing through the tropical rain forest, is in the Tenorio National Park, north of the Arenal Volcano  The river is famous for it‘s unnaturally turquoise-blue coloured water.  This is caused by the meeting of the headwaters of two rivers with different mineral compositions.  You can see this natural wonder on one of the hikes through the park.  Local legend is that the creator washed his paintbrush in the Rio Celeste after creating the sky.
